This 1990 double-CD features a variety of Elektra's
then current artists, performing
songs by other artists that had been previously
recorded by the label. Included in
the booklet are photos of all the LP covers of
the original recordings. Also included
are chronological samples of actual LP-labels
that Elektra has used through the years.
The most recent example being Linda Ronstadt's
Cry
Like A Rainstorm...Howl Like The Wind,
which turned out to be the last vinyl LP release
for Linda on Elektra.
Before Linda released her Box Set collection
in 1999, her recording of "The Blacksmith"
was only available on Rubáiyát.
The
1965 Elektra LP that contained the song that Linda
chose to record, Kathy & Carol has
been out of print for some time, however it is now
available
on CD.
Rubáiyát was released as
a 2-CD set (Elektra 60940-2),
a 2-Cassette set (Elektra 60940-4), and a 4-LP
set (Elektra 60940-1)
All are now out of print.
There were two versions of promos for Rubáiyát.
There was a one-disc sampler (PRCD 8216-2),
and a 4-disc set, which consisted of the regular
2-disc set of new songs,
plus another 2-disc set containing Elektra's
previously released versions of the songs.
The 4-disc set was entitled Rubáiyát:
The Originals (PRCD 8208-2 and 60940-2)
(Note: Linda's selection was not included
on the one-disc sampler promo.)
This
link shows a very poor quality photo of a Rubáiyát
poster and
a CD and Cassette, both in their deluxe long-box
packaging.
